CAMBRIDGE - Portia Elizabeth Holliday, 58, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at her home in Cambridge.
She was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Mary Louise Holliday Palmore of Cambridge and the late Herbert Hoover Vaughn of Baltimore.
Ms. Holliday attended the public schools in Dorchester County and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in New York in 1966. She also attended Washington College, Salisbury University and Sojourner Douglass College.
She was employed for various companies in the area which included Old Fashioned Foods, Western Printing, Bumble Bee Seafood, Dorchester County Health Department, Delmarva Community Services, Board of Education, Little Totland and Visions American Learning Center.
Portia was baptized at The Cambridge Church of Christ, on Oct. 14, 1989.
She is survived by a nephew, who she raised as her own, Jarrell Terez Holliday; a brother, Donte' Thomas Holliday; three aunts, Elois Wright of Cambridge, who raised her as her own, Annie Wilson of Trappe and Dorothea Chandler of Baltimore; a great-aunt, Martha Jones; a stepgrandfather, who raised her as his own, Clarence Jones; six nieces, JoAnn McCready (Darren Sr.), Tiene Holliday, Tanya Diaz, Ashyrra Dotson (Leon Sr.), Daquantaya Holliday and Dontaezia Holliday; eight nephews, Raymond and Jermaine Holliday, Norman Nuton, (Myra) who is like a son, Donte Wilson, Joseph Chester (Deanna), Isaac Holliday, Donte Holliday Jr and Dyquan Holliday; many great-nieces and nephews, Darren McCready II, Da'Andre Wilson and James Lee, Carol, Demonte, Dontre' and Danyona Diaz, Leon Jr., Turhan, Cherise and Oward Holliday, Mya and Mariah Nuton, Tanya, Baia and Donte', Wilson Jr., David, Samantha, Sarah and Saif; two special cousins who were like brothers, James Wilson (Sharon) and Yvon C. Wilson (Valarie), other cousins and relatives.
In addition to her parents, a sister, June Holliday, three cousins, Tanya, Darren and Calvin Wright Jr. preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at Bethel AME Church in Cambridge with Bro. Garrick Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
There will be a viewing Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
