A 19-year-old Salisbury man was charged with attempted first-degree murder and related offenses by Salisbury police after a stabbing on May 13.

Brian Karl Jones was also charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and possession of handgun by a prohibited person.

Police said they responded to the Wali Plaza at 1122 Parsons Road at 2:13 p.m. after a report of an assault with a firearm. They found the victim, 20-year-old Arnell Bivens Jr., had been shot once in the lower torso.

He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

After the shooting the suspect fled the area on foot in the area of Pemberton Apartments. The area was closed for approximately two hours while police searched for the suspect. The Wicomico County Board of Education coordinated with families of children who attend Pemberton Elementary School.

During the investigation, detectives of the Salisbury Police Department, with the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit, identified the suspect as Jones, police said. They said he was in an apartment in building 1009 of Pemberton Apartments.

Detectives issued a search and seizure warrant at the apartment and recovered a handgun, police said.

Juvenile charged in bomb threats

A 17-year-old Salisbury male was arrested and charged with threats, burning or explosive and disorderly conduct, following two recent bomb threats, Salisbury police said.

Police explained that on April 12 around 10 p.m., police went to Wal-Mart on North Salisbury Boulevard after a reported bomb threat by a man who called and threatened to blow up the store.

The store was evacuated and the inside and out searched by K-9s for about one hour. Nothing was found.

Police said on May 14, the 17-year-old male was arrested after being identified by detectives as the person who made the bomb threat.

They said there is no evidence linking it to the March 28 bomb threat at the Centre at Salisbury.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Teens accused in assault

Three teenagers were arrested following the assault of a 34-year-old Salisbury man on April 26, police said.

One of the teenagers is an adult, the other was charged as an adult and the third is 14, police said. All three were taken into custody on May 13 and 14.

Lashawn Terry Butts, 18, of Salisbury, Karon Malik Washington, 17, of Salisbury and the juvenile were charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.

Butts and Washington were taken to the detention center and the juvenile was taken to the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center.

The victim was assaulted on the 400 block of Churchill Avenue in Salisbury, police said. At 11:15 p.m., deputies and officers from other  agencies, responded to a fight in the parking lot of the Elks Club, on Churchill Avenue.

Police said the victim had been attacked repeatedly after he attempted to break up a fight between juvenile females. Police said he was punched repeatedly and kicked in the head and body after he fell to the ground.  He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Police said those involved were attending a private party in a rented hall.

Juveniles suspected in property destruction

Four male juveniles, ages 9, 10, and two age 12  were referred to Juvenile Services on May 18 after a Wicomico Sheriff’s deputy responded to investigate what appeared to be feces spread all over the front door of the complainant’s residence.

During the investigation, the deputy identified four juvenile subjects that would all be determined to have knowledge of the incident and to have been involved. The smearing of the feces occurred while the resident was gone from the home.

All four juveniles were charged on a juvenile referral that will be submitted to the Department of Juvenile Services for adjudication.

Pittsville man faces assault charges

A 25-year-old Pittsville man was charged with first-degree assault after an incident in eastern Wicomico County.

Jakeup Bowden was arrested in connection with an assault that had been reported on 1 May. In this incident, Bowden allegedly threw a glass bottle at a vehicle next to him at the traffic signal at Walston Switch Rd and Ocean Gateway.

The individuals he threw the bottle at followed Bowden to his residence at which point Bowden reportedly brandished a shotgun and began discharging rounds into the air in what Bowden himself would describe as an attempt to scare these subjects away.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the deputy applied for and obtained a warrant for Bowden’s arrest. Upon being taken into custody, Bowden was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Bowden in the Detention Center in lieu of $275,000 bond.
