Man faces heroin possession charge                                           

A Salisbury man was arrested in the early morning hours of May 24 after a deputy stopped the man’s vehicle on West Isabella Street.

Upon making contact with Byron Maurice Simpson, 31, the deputy detected an odor of alcohol emanating from with the vehicle.

Post arrest, the deputy discovered that Simpson was in possession of what was identified as heroin and crack cocaine. Upon searching Simpson’s vehicle, the deputy located what was identified as marijuana.

During processing Simpson refused to submit to a breath test.

Simpson was charged with possession of suspected heroin, possession of suspected crack cocaine and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Pittsville man charged after motorcycle chase

A 23-year-old Pittsville man was charged with leaving an accident scene May 20 after an 8:23 p.m. incident on Crooked Oak Lane.

Wicomico sheriff’s deputies said Jean Carlo Cabrera-Oliveras was riding a motorcycle that collided with a pedestrian.

Reports to the sheriff’s office stated that the motorcycle operator left the area at a high rate of speed following the collision. A responding deputy contacted the motorcycle on Nanticoke Road and attempted to stop it, instead the rider drove away at a high rate in an attempt to elude the deputy.

The deputy attempted to follow the fleeing motorcycle until prudence caused the deputy to cease the pursuit on Old Ocean City Road in the area of Beaglin Park Drive.

A short while later, a different deputy observed the subject this time riding on Walston Switch Road and attempted to stop him and pursued him until the rider decided to stop on Mount Hermon Road in the area of Forest Grove Road.

During these pursuits the operator of the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and operating recklessly, deputies said.

Cabrera-Oliveras was taken into custody and charged with both fleeing and eluding and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury. Upon presentation to the District Court Commissioner, Cabrera-Oliveras was detained in the Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Deputies said the pedestrian who was initially struck in the incident was transported to PRMC for treatment of injuries.

Bivalve woman faces burglary charges

A 51-year-old Bivalve woman was charged with attempted burglary and malicious destruction of property after a window breaking incident May 21 on Jester Road, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

Carinthia Ann Jackson was arrested in the 3000 block of Jesterville Road at 7:43 p.m. after a deputy responded to the report of somebody breaking windows to get inside.

Deputies said when they arrived they saw Jackson lying in the street in front of the residence and smelled alcohol.

Deputies said seven windows were broken, and that there was an attempt to also smash a car windshield on the property. A paver, pliers, garden sprinkler and log were used to break the house windows. A patio chair was used on the car windshield, deputies said.

Jackson was being held in the Wicomico County jail on $10,000 bail.

Fraud scheme being probed

Salisbury Police are investigating a fraud scheme at Gateway Village senior apartments on Route 50.

Police said on May 19 at 1:40 p.m. a woman knocked on a door asking to see a resident’s medication and saying she was from “the center.”

The victim showed the woman her bottle of OxyContin on the porch and the woman asked her for something to eat. The victim went inside and brought food back for the woman.

Afterward, the victim counted her pills and discovered five had been stolen, police said.

Police are looking for a black woman about 45 years old, weighing 170 pounds wearing a dark jacket and driving a small blue car.

Man charged with leaving accident        

A 23-year-old Pittsville man charged with leaving the scene of an accident and attempting to flee and elude is being held in the Wicomico County jail on $75,000 bail, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said at 8:23 p.m. on May 20, they were called to Crooked Oak Lane near Hebron for the report of a collision between a motorcycle and a pedestrian.

Deputies said the motorcycle operator left the area at a high rate of speed following the collision. A responding deputy saw the motorcycle on Nanticoke Road and attempted to stop it, but the rider drove away at a high speed.

The deputy attempted to follow the motorcycle, “until prudence caused the deputy to cease the pursuit on Old Ocean City Road in the area of Beaglin Park Drive,” the sheriff’s office press release stated.

Not long afterward, another deputy saw the rider on Walston Switch Road, attempted to stop him and followed him until the rider stopped on Mount Hermon Road near Forest Grove Road.

Jean Carlo Cabrera-Oliveras was arrested and charged.

The person hit by the motorcycle was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, police said.

Mardela Springs woman held on $110k bail

A woman charged with failure to appear was arrested and released on $110,000 bail, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Alisha Mowery was seen walking in the 100 block of Bridge Street in Mardela Springs at 8:15 p.m. May 20 and arrested.

She was being sought on three outstanding failure to appear bench warrants, all issued in connection with controlled dangerous substance cases, deputies said.

City man faces burglary charges

A 31-year-old Salisbury man was charged with second-degree burglary, theft and resisting arrest on May 19, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Derek A. Largent of the 600 block of Gunby Road was released pending trial. Around 11 p.m., deputies went to the 600 block of Gunby Road after a theft in progress was reported.

The first deputy to arrive attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the area without its headlights on.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled at an increased speed. Police said the operator found himself trapped at the dead end on Colony Drive, got out of the vehicle and continued to flee on foot through a field.

With the assistance of as sheriff’s office K9, the suspect was located hiding in tall grass in the field and arrested, deputies said.

Deputies said Largent was arrested after somebody entered a garage and attempted to steal a power washer and a 125 CC Honda motorcycle.

Bail was set at $100,000 and Largent was released. He is awaiting trial for two separate arrests, deputies said.

Man facing assault charges

A 24-year-old Salisbury man was charged with second-degree assault after an incident May 20 in the 200 block of Clover Street in Salisbury.

Wicomico County Sheriff deputies arrested Harry Dean Morris IV at 5:20 p.m. in connection with an assault committed May 11.

They said Morris is accused of reportedly punching the victim in the face and hitting the victim while he was on the ground, then stopping after the Sheriff’s Office had been called.

Police said they arrested Morris after obtaining a warrant, because he wasn’t there when deputies arrived.

He was being held in the Wicomico County jail on $20,000 bail.
