Plus One Fitness owner helped others lead healthier lives
Family and friends, surprised by the sudden death of Plus One Fitness owner Scott Schwartz, are remembering him as a man who cared deeply about others.
“Everyone was so fond of him because that’s really how he was, he really cared,” said his daughter, Christy, who will now be running the business.
“This wasn’t just his job, the way he earned his living. He was there every day from 6 a.m.to 6 p.m.,” his daughter said.
“He had a heart attack. He had a heart attack a couple years ago. It was something genetic they were never aware of. He had been seeing a cardiologist and everything looked good.
“He took care of himself. He worked out. He never smoked. My dad would sit around watching football and he had a protein drink in his hand. He didn’t drink or smoke. He didn’t do any of that,” she said.
Plus One will remain open, at the same location. His daughter, who recently moved back to the area, will implement skills her father taught her. She’s been training clients since she was 16.
Owner of Plus One Fitness for more than 20 years, Schwartz, who died Feb. 28, formerly had a fitness center on Snow Hill Road. It has been on Williamsport Circle eight years.
Friends posted on Facebook that the 57-year-old Schwartz, a native of Baltimore, was interested in the success of his clients and worked to help them enjoy healthier lives.
Throughout his life, he continued his education, earning numerous certifications.
At Wor-Wic Community College, he taught students who wanted to be personal trainers.
Schwartz is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughters Christy Schwartz, Kimberly Richardson and Jennifer Sheerer; and grandchildren Lee, Ryan, Kaden, Kaya and Emma.
His family said he was proud to be a husband,
father and grandfather and was an unfailingly loyal friend.
On the Holloway Funeral Home website, he was characterized as one committed to a healthful lifestyle and who encouraged others.
“My father was a hard worker,” his daughter said.
“He was definitely a good influence as far as having a strong work ethic. I am following in his footsteps.”
