EAST NEW MARKET - Patsy Rickwood passed away Monday morning, May 21, 2012, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by family, including her loving husband of nearly 57 years, William Vernon "Bud" Rickwood. Patsy was born Etha Patricia Bloodsworth in East New Market on March 18, 1933. She graduated from East New Market High School, where she lettered in sports and then attended Strayer Business College in Baltimore. Returning to marry Bud, her high school sweetheart, she worked as the manager of Montgomery Ward in Cambridge before joining with her husband to open Rickwood Mechanical Repair and Service - "Budway, Inc.", focusing on commercial trucks and farm equipment. Patsy and Bud worked side by side in all the years since. The business included, for a time, long distance truck transport and, in more recent years, school bus contracting, inspection, and repair. She had an eye for interior design and collected furniture and antiques. She was known for her good cooking, hosting many family celebrations and "feasts". Patsy was very spiritual and served Trinity United Methodist Church in East New Market for many, many years, where she volunteered, held the position of Treasurer, and compiled and edited the "Country Cookin' Keepsakes" cookbook. Patsy was the youngest of nine children. Her parents, Edna Bounds Bloodsworth and Robert Walter Bloodsworth preceded her in death, as did her stepfather, Bain Cleveland Thomas; brothers and sisters, Beauchamp Bloodsworth, Lucy Bloodsworth Watson, Howard Bloodsworth, Robert Bloodsworth, Liston Bloodsworth, Clifford Bloodsworth, Ronald Bloodsworth and Pauline Bloodsworth Beckwith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kim Negron and husband Charles; son, William Darren Rickwood and wife Anne, seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dale Vroman and Mr. David Tolley will officiate. Interment will follow in East New Market Cemetery. Donations in memory of Patsy may be made to East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, P. O. Box 280, East New Market, Maryland 21631.
