CAMBRIDGE - Olga J. Tubman, 82, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Thursday, May 1, 2008.

She was born at Wingate on June 28, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Ogle Zebulon and Roberta Powley Jones.

Olga attended Cambridge High School where she excelled in CHS sports, lettering in basketball, volleyball and tennis. She graduated in the class of 1942, and was devoted to class reunions, the best being in 2007 held at Portside in Cambridge.

Olga was once proudly featured on the front page of the Baltimore Sun for her participation in one of the first annual Dorchester Outdoor Shows.

During WW II she worked for the U.S. Navy, and after the war she worked in the family jewelry business. Olga took pride in dressing the store windows, especially around the holidays.

She was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church where she helped serve on soup day every month. Also she was a member of the Dorchester Arts Center, as well as a former member of the Cambridge Country Club and Cambridge Yacht Club.

Olga devoted her life to her family, most of all to her mother "Bert." She took great pleasure in giving her theme based birthday parties until she passed away at the age of 103 in 2007. They were both regularly seen having lunch at one of the favorite spots, either Shirley's, Doris May's or Hyser's at noon time.

Olga was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother as well as mother-in-law. She was also an avid animal lover. She fed the yard birds and other animals every day. She could never leave any animal that was hurt or lost until she could find their owner, or get them water, food or help. All of her life she had a soft spot for animals.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William W. Tubman Sr., of Cambridge; one son, Dr. William W. Tubman Jr. and his wife, Anna Ruth Tubman of Chestertown; one daughter, Tracey Kim Gynan and her husband, Bernard Gynan of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Kelly Tubman and her friend, Charlie Chubet of New York, Rachel Crampsey and her husband, Kevin Crampsey also of New York, Brittany Gynan and Jacob Gynan, both of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by a sister, Jackie Vickers and her husband, Walter Vickers of Cambridge, one nephew Judd Vickers and his partner, Greg Partoo of Cambridge.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Michael D. Reddig officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Active pallbearers will be Bryan Pritchett, William C. Press, Richard Meekins, David Keyes, Richard Blake and Terry Tubman. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Warner, Judd Vickers and Greg Bartoo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
