In what proved to be a wild and crazy game, Zach Pompea pushed No. 1 Salisbury University past Eastern Shore rival Washington College, 15-14, in double overtime, netting both the game-tying and game-winning goals. It marked just the third time and second straight year the game has gone to overtime, with the Sea Gulls claiming all three extra time victories.

Trailing 12-6 after three quarters of action, the Sea Gulls (14-0) outscored the Shoremen 9-2 the rest of the way en route to claiming the Clark Cup. Salisbury recorded an eight-goal fourth quarter to aid in the comeback, with goals from five different members of the maroon and gold, including two from Pompea.

Pierre Armstrong broke a nine goal Washington (6-7) run, finding the net less than 30 seconds into the final frame of action as he finished off one of three Pompea assists for the afternoon. Pompea netted his second of four markers for the afternoon just under the 10-minute mark to pull the maroon and gold within two, 13-11.

After Josh Melton, who finished the day with three goals and an assist, leveled the score at 13-13 with just over five minutes to play the Shoremen netted what looked to be the game-winning goal with 1:28 left to play in regulation. However, a turnover by the Shoremen, caused by Matt O'Callaghan, gave the Sea Gulls the ball back with 18 seconds left to play, setting up Salisbury for one final attempt at tying the game. Tyler Snyder found Pompea on the right side of the box, who stepped in and fired a bullet past Washington goalie Chris Del Rosario to level the game with two seconds left to play.

After not much action in the first overtime, although both teams did get at least one possession, the game went to a second extra period. This time Salisbury never allowed the Shoremen to get an offensive possession as the Sea Gulls forced a Washington turnover on a clear attempt to give the offense another chance to win the game. Once again it was the familiar duo of Snyder finding Pompea, who ripped home a bounce shot to deliver the win and complete the dramatic and crazy comeback.

Pompea finished the contest with a team-best seven points while Corey Gwin finished with six points behind a two-goal and four-assist performance. Kevin Murphy and O'Callaghan each finished the game tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with two while Brett Malamphy finished with a team-best 15 groundballs.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, when it hosts No. 3 York College of Pennsylvania. Faceoff between the two top-five programs is set for 7 p.m. under the lights at Sea Gull Stadium.
