Nearly 5,000 softball players here for USSA World Series
Nearly 5,000 softball players will visit the Lower Eastern Shore as the U.S. Specialty Sports Association Eastern World Series continues this month.
The three-legged series began on July 13 and will run through July 30. The tournament, in total, will bring more than 350 teams from 14 states and Canada to the region ranging in age from 10 to 18.
The event is projected to generate an estimated economic impact of nearly $18 million and a hotel room night demand in excess of 10,000.
The second leg of the series kicked off Tuesday, with opening ceremonies at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. Tournament play began Wednesday at fields throughout the Shore, with the main fields located at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury. Teams ages 14 and under will compete this week, with over 120 teams taking part.
The first leg of the series concluded on Sunday, and brought nearly 110 teams together in competition.
