The Sept. 24 NAACP meeting will focus on the importance of family involvement in the academic and social success of their children.
Dr. Faye Wilson, parent involvement specialist for Wicomico County Board of Education, will share research and parents’ experiences to show that parent involvement – more than economic resources – helps students achieve.
In an earlier presentation, Wilson said: “Parents who tell their children every day that education matters and that they know their children can do well in school help children remain focused on their schoolwork.”
Wilson will share several specific things that any parent can do to, with a special focus on the ways parents of middle and high school students can help them get over academic hurdles.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Chipman Cultural Center, 325 Broad St.
The public is encouraged to attend. Door prizes will be distributed. For more details, contact Mary Ashanti at 410-543-4187 or via email at wcnaacpbranch7028@gmail.com.
