The Wicomico Farm & Home Show and Wicomico County are proud to announce the return of the Wicomico County Fair, Aug. 17-19 at WinterPlace Park. This year’s event will celebrate 82 years of fair traditions, and is presented by Perdue Farms and the Pohanka Automotive Group.
The Wicomico County Fair serves to showcase the importance of agriculture on the Eastern Shore in a family-friendly atmosphere while celebrating the culture, heritage and talents of our community. Fair events include livestock showings, educational poultry exhibits, petting farm, horse shows, Maryland High School Rodeo, Mason-Dixon Deputies-sanctioned mounted shooting competition, skid steer / excavator competition, car and motorcycle shows, baking and craft competitions, carnival rides, 5’ fry pan, live music and more.
A fireworks show, sponsored by Perdue, will take place on Friday evening around 9 p.m.
New additions to this year’s lineup include the Chase the Chicken 3K, Wing War and cornhole tournaments. The Chase the Chicken 3K Fun Run & Walk will take place Saturday morning. Competitors who cross the finish line before the “chicken” receive a complimentary chicken dinner from the Lions Club 5’ Fry Pan. Costumes are encouraged, with awards given for “best farmer” and “best egg.” Early registration is available now and regular registration will be available on-site.
Wing War will take place Saturday from 3-6 p.m., giving festival attendees the opportunity to sample competitors’ wings and vote for their favorite. Wing War tickets will be available on-site.
The Salisbury Jaycees will host cornhole tournaments at the Fair throughout the weekend. The tournament entry fee is $10 per team, with 50 percent of each tournament’s fees going to the winner. Registration will be available on-site.
Other new events at this year’s Fair include the Wicomico County Fair Queen Pageant, 4-H Fashion Review, and watermelon seed spitting and watermelon eating contests.
