Trump says Pirro 'folded like an umbrella' in bid to drop Reflecting Pool vandalism charges
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump says U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro “choked” and “folded like an umbrella” in moving to drop charges against a former Olympian accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Trump ducked questions Monday about whether he'd fire Pirro but kept up his drumbeat of criticism toward her. The move to dismiss charges against David Hearn was an embarrassing setback for the Justice Department and marked a rare moment during Trump’s second term of an aide or political appointee openly defying him. Trump first posted about the development on social media over the weekend, saying, “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro.” Hours after his comments Monday, Pirro was spotted at the White House.

Maryland Democrats begin advancing redistricting constitutional amendment
SUMMARY: Maryland lawmakers have opened a special session to consider a first step in a partisan redistricting initiative that could help Democrats pick up an additional U.S. House seat by 2028. The General Assembly began debate Monday on a proposed constitutional amendment intended to give Democrats greater latitude to draw congressional maps favoring their party. Democrats currently represent seven of the state’s eight House districts. They eventually want to draw maps that could allow them to win all eight seats. The proposed amendment would have to go before voters for their approval before lawmakers would begin considering new district lines.

Man charged with second-degree murder for man's death in Baltimore harbor
SUMMARY: A Maryland man faces second-degree murder and other charges after police say he fought with another man then pushed him into Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Thirty-six-year-old James Fitzsimmons of Parkville is accused of killing 37-year-old James Britt of Baltimore on Sunday afternoon. According to court documents, police have obtained surveillance video showing the men fighting in an alley before Britt retreated and crossed the street toward the water. Police say Fitzsimmons then pushed him into the harbor, saying “Oh well” when the victim's girlfriend said he couldn't swim. No attorney is listed for Fitzsimmons in court records, and no phone number for him could be found.

Intensity rises at Commanders training camp during the first padded practice
SUMMARY: Dan Quinn began Washington Commanders training camp preaching the need for competition. The coach got his wish. It was an even practice as both the offense and defense had their moments throughout the morning session. Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin showed off their chemistry, which was derailed by injuries last season. Tight end Chig Okonkwo says “we were all out there flying around and talking smack.”
