Supreme Court sides with a Texas man who says it’s not a crime for marijuana users to have guns
SUMMARY: The Supreme Court has ruled against a broad federal ban on gun ownership by marijuana users. The decision Thursday is the latest in a line of firearm cases from a court that has expanded gun rights. The justices decided unanimously in favor of a Texas man who argued that a law barring guns from anyone who regularly uses illegal drugs violates the Second Amendment. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote that his opinion narrowly limits the government’s power to take guns away from drug users who aren't considered dangerous. The Trump administration had defended the law, but Gorsuch wrote that its core argument “fails under every measure."

Trump administration can replace Washington slavery exhibit in Philadelphia, appeals court says
SUMMARY: A federal appeals court panel says the Trump administration can replace a slavery exhibit at George Washington’s home in Philadelphia. A three-judge panel of the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday struck down a lower court’s injunction that required the National Park Service to reinstall the interpretive panels. The unanimous ruling by the panel said a lower court judge wrongly interpreted Philadelphia’s contract claims involving Independence National Historical Park. The ruling comes a week after a Massachusetts federal judge ordered the Trump administration to restore sites changed under an executive order. It's not clear how that ruling would affect the Philadelphia site.

Maryland exercises its right to match an $85 million offer to keep Preakness branding rights
SUMMARY: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said the state will exercise its right of first refusal to match Churchill Downs Incorporated's $85 million offer for intellectual property of the Preakness Stakes and Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. Churchill Downs announced in April that it was buying the branding from 1/ST Racing with the intent of licensing it back to Maryland annually to stage the race. Moore said the state would fund the cost with a tax-exempt revenue bond that would be paid back by money generated by the Preakness and Black-Eyed Susan.

Jayden Daniels is done talking about last season. There's enough on his plate for 2026
SUMMARY: Jayden Daniels wants to look forward, not backward. The Washington quarterback says he's done talking about last year, when the Commanders stumbled to a 5-12 record. The big question this year is whether Daniels can stay healthy after he played only seven games last season, but there’s more to rebounding than just that. Commanders fans have already seen one promising quarterback — Robert Griffin III — have a sensational rookie season in 2012 and then never reach those heights again. Keith Mitchell goes from lows to highs in record-setting turnaround at US Open
SUMMARY: Keith Mitchell never imagined getting in the U.S. Open record book. Not after he was 6 over through seven holes at Shinnecock Hills. He shot a 41 on the back nine after starting on No. 10. He was thinking about trying to break 80. And then Mitchell shot 29 on the front nine for an even-par 70. It's the first time in U.S. Open history someone shot in the 40s on one side and in the 20s on the other side. It's not unusual for there to be a 12-shot difference over two days. Cowan, a 21-year-old who will be a senior at Oklahoma, briefly held the lead in his first major championship before finishing with a 2-under 68, matching the lowest round by an amateur at Shinnecock. Wyndham Clark seizes on changing nature of Shinnecock to lead US Open
SUMMARY: The USGA set up a different course at Shinnecock Hills to handle strong wind Thursday. When the wind subsided later, Wyndham Clark seemed to play a different U.S. Open. He took advantage of the gentler conditions, pulling away to reach 6-under par through 16 holes. He left in darkness with a four-shot lead over seven players, including Ryder Cowan and Dustin Johnson. Rory McIlroy thought he did well to shoot 69 in gusts over 30 mph. Scottie Scheffler battled all day, relying on his short game to salvage a 72. Clark will return Friday morning to complete the round.

Rory McIlroy's up and down day: Making eagle and scrambling for par to stay in US Open hunt
SUMMARY: Rory McIlroy bogeyed his final two holes to finish with a 1-under 69. But his play on Nos. 3, 4 and 5, kept him near the top of a crowded leaderboard in the first round of the U.S. Open. Aside from the occasional miscue — and the one wild approach on No. 4 — McIlroy played smartly on a difficult golf course made all the tougher by howling wind. Wyndham Clark has lowest opening round at Shinnecock Hills to lead US Open
SUMMARY: Wyndham Clark has the lowest opening round at Shinnecock Hills in U.S. Open history. Clark returned Friday morning to complete his first round. He made two pars for a 6-under 64. That gives him a two-shot lead over Dustin Johnson and they quickly headed back out to Shinnecock Hills for the second round. The start will be remembered for a fog delay that worked out for the late starters. The USGA set up the course easier to keep it fair due to wind. But the delay meant Clark and Johnson had a soft course in less wind late in their round.

Dustin Johnson turns back the clock and enjoys a golden hour at the US Open to climb into contention
SUMMARY: For four holes and one golden hour of golf just before twilight, Dustin Johnson looked a lot like the player who won the U.S. Open a decade ago. Just as quickly, he looked like the same sort of mystery he’s been since leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf four years ago. Four straight birdies over those four holes briefly put Johnson in a tie for the lead at the U.S. Open. Then, a missed opportunity on the par-5 fifth and a sloppy three-putt for double-bogey on No. 6 dropped him four shots behind Wyndham Clark.
