Ship operator and employee are charged in crash that caused the deadly collapse of Baltimore bridge
SUMMARY: Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the operator of the ship that crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge leading to the deaths of six construction workers in March 2024. A key employee is also charged. Federal prosecutors announced the indictment Tuesday naming Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., based in Singapore, and Synergy Maritime Pte Ltd., based in Chennai, India. FBI investigations focused on the vessel’s operations and whether the crew knew of critical issues before leaving port. Maryland officials estimate it will cost between $4.3 billion and $5.2 billion to replace the bridge. A new bridge is expected to open to traffic in 2030.

Iron Honor is a slight 9-2 favorite on the morning line for the Preakness
SUMMARY: Iron Honor is the morning line favorite at 9-2 in a wide-open Preakness this weekend that does not include Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo. There’s no telling who will be the bettors’ choice by the time the race actually starts Saturday at Laurel Park. Taj Mahal at 5-1, Chip Honcho at 5-1, Incredibolt at 5-1 and Ocelli at 6-1 were also among the favorites following Monday’s draw, but none has particularly short odds in what could be the largest Preakness field in 15 years. The previous time 14 horses made it to the starting gate was in 2011.

US hotel operators say promised boon from hosting World Cup hasn’t materialized yet
SUMMARY: U.S. hotels say the promised economic boon from the World Cup hasn’t materialized yet for them. The American Hotel & Lodging Association recently released a report that found room bookings are lighter than expected in most of the 11 U.S. host cities with roughly a month to go before the start of the most watched sports tournament in the world. The group’s survey found that in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle, nearly 80% of hotels responding reported the pace of bookings was tracking behind a typical summer. Experts say the weaker-than-expected demand shouldn’t have come as a surprise to hotel operators.

PGA Championship at Aronimink is largely about the big slopes on big greens
SUMMARY: The first day of practice for the PGA Championship at Aronimink made it clear what's important. The greens are big. And so are the slopes on the putting surfaces. Keegan Bradley won the BMW Championship at Aronimink in 2018. He says driving isn't the biggest issue, but the greens can be crazy with all the slopes. Matt Fitzpatrick says it will be hard for the PGA to find enough pin positions on some of them. Jordan Spieth played nine holes to get ready for his 10th try at completing the career Grand Slam. He's missing only the PGA.
