Rutgers University withdraws invite to a graduation speaker over his criticism of Israel
SUMMARY: Rutgers University has canceled a planned graduation speech by business leader Rami Elghandour after students raised concerns about his criticism of Israel on social media. Elghandour is the CEO of biotech company Arcellx and a Rutgers alumnus. He was set to speak at the School of Engineering's May 15 convocation, but the university rescinded his invitation after learning some students would skip the ceremony because of his posts. A Rutgers spokesperson confirmed that the posts focused on Israel but didn't specify further. Elghandour frequently posts on social media about violence in Gaza and the West Bank. He has accused Israel of war crimes and praised pro-Palestinian protesters.

ADL reports a sharp drop in US antisemitic incidents in 2025, driven by a steep fall on campuses
SUMMARY: The number of antisemitic incidents in the United States tallied by the Anti-Defamation League declined by 33% in 2025 — the first drop in five years — due in large part to what the ADL said was a dramatic decrease of incidents on college campuses. After pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist student protests proliferated in 2024, the ADL tallied 1,694 antisemitic incidents on U.S. college campuses during that year. According to the ADL's latest figures released Wednesday, the number plunged by 66% in 2025, to 583, as many colleges and universities — under pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration — took steps to curb such protests.

Pennsylvania sues AI company, saying its chatbots illegally hold themselves out as licensed doctors
SUMMARY: Pennsylvania has sued an artificial intelligence chatbot maker, saying its chatbots illegally hold themselves out as doctors and deceive the system’s users into thinking they're getting medical advice from a licensed professional. The lawsuit was filed Friday and asks a state court to order Character Technologies Inc. to stop its Character.AI chatbots “from engaging in the unlawful practice of medicine and surgery.” The lawsuit says an investigator from a state agency found a character that described itself as a “doctor of psychiatry” who's licensed in Pennsylvania. Character.AI says it posts disclaimers to inform users that characters on its website aren't real people and that everything they say “should be treated as fiction."

Rutschman's go-ahead, pinch-hit single in ninth helps lift Orioles past Marlins 9-7
SUMMARY: Adley Rutschman had a go-ahead, pinch-hit single and Leody Taveras followed with a run-scoring single in the ninth inning to lift the Baltimore Orioles past the Miami Marlins 9-7 and snap a five-game skid. Rico García got the last four outs for the win. Liam Hicks and Otto López homered for the Marlins.

Coaches group supports earlier CFP finish and proposes changes to accomplish that
SUMMARY: The American Football Coaches Association is proposing the elimination of conference championship games and other changes as part of its non-binding recommendation for the College Football Playoff to be completed by the second Monday each January. The AFCA has no authority within the NCAA or CFP governance structures. The AFCA, which has FBS coaches as part of its board and membership, publicly revealed its positions Tuesday. As for the size of the playoff field, currently 12 teams and expected to expand, the AFCA didn’t publicly endorse a certain number. It did say, however, that future playoff models should maximize the number of participants while honoring the proposed completion date.

SUMMARY: The New York Giants are signing defensive tackle D.J. Reader to a two-year contract worth $12.5 million, a person familiar with the move tells The Associated Press. Reader, who turns 32 on July 1, fills the void left by trading Dexter Lawrence to Cincinnati prior to the draft last month. The Giants hosted Reader for a workout on April 13 while there was uncertainty about Lawrence's future with the team. Reader started all 17 games for the Detroit Lions last season and made 28 tackles. In 137 games with Houston, Cincinnati and Detroit since the Texans picked him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft, Reader has 328 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks.
