US--Campbell's-Lawsuit

Campbell's IT chief on leave after lawsuit claims he said company's food is for 'poor people'

SUMMARY: The Campbell’s Co. said Tuesday it has placed one of its executives on leave while it investigates claims that he made racist comments and mocked the company’s products and customers in an audio recording. Martin Bally, Campbell’s vice president of information technology, was named in a lawsuit filed last week by Robert Garza, a former Campbell’s employee. In the lawsuit, Garza claimed he met with Bally in November 2024 to discuss his salary. During the meeting, which Garza allegedly recorded, Bally described Campbell’s as “highly process(ed) food” and said it was for “poor people.” Garza also claims Bally made racist comments about Indian workers.

US--Public Housing-Corruption Arrests

New York public housing bribery case ends with a milestone 70 convictions

SUMMARY: Prosecutors have secured the 70th and final conviction of a massive corruption probe into New York City's public housing. The decade-long bribery scheme involved public housing employees who steered work to contractors in exchange for bribes. The arrests in February 2024 were the largest single-day bribery takedown in U.S. Justice Department history. The defendants, including current and former New York City Housing Authority employees, demanded between 10% and 20% of contract values. They pocketed over $2.1 million from bribes, while companies received $15 million in no-bid contracts. Charges included bribery, fraud, and extortion.

US--Government Shutdown-Giving Thanks

Gratitude and doubt: The effects of the shutdown linger as families prepare for Thanksgiving

SUMMARY: As Americans prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, the gratitude many feel is tempered by doubts caused by the disruptions of the recent government shutdown. Washington has reopened but insecurity lingers. In one Missouri community, a single mother is relieved by the restoration of benefits that help feed her children but feels newly vulnerable. A retired school cafeteria worker who hosts a free holiday feast in the community has upped her plans to 700 meals to account for the food insecurity. A U.S. customs worker in Florida who worked for weeks without pay is grateful for the invitation to a meal her family would otherwise be unable to afford.

US--Turkey Adoptions

Some families are 'adopting' turkeys for Thanksgiving instead of eating them

SUMMARY: An increasing number of farm animal sanctuaries across the country have started promoting an alternative version of Thanksgiving. Rather than dipping turkeys into gravy, families “adopt” them, donating money to their lifelong care. In return they receive photos, certificates and sometimes one-on-one visits with the birds. At Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary in Colorado, a $25 donation comes with a certificate, photo and either a virtual or in-person visit. The funds help pay for extending the turkeys’ outdoor pasture area, their feed and sometimes their pricey vet bills. The sanctuary says the program is about educating the public that turkeys are more than just centerpieces.

TEN--Carlos Alcaraz-Exhibitions

Carlos Alcaraz's season is done but the tennis star's year isn't

SUMMARY: Carlos Alcaraz recently wrapped up his 2025 official schedule with the ATP’s year-end No. 1 ranking, tour-highs of 71 match wins and eight trophies and a pair of Grand Slam titles that lifted his career total to six. Yes, his season is done — but his year isn’t. That’s because the 22-year-old Alcaraz, who skipped representing Spain in last week’s Davis Cup Final 8 because of pain in his right hamstring, is signed up for a pair of upcoming exhibition events that include singles matches against two-time U.S. Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe in Newark and against João Fonseca in Miami.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow excited for long-awaited return and Thanksgiving stage against Ravens

SUMMARY: Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow confirms he’ll return Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Burrow had surgery for a turf toe injury on Sept. 19 and is returning nearly a month early. The Bengals have a 3-8 record, but coach Zac Taylor emphasized Burrow's readiness over the team's record. Burrow says he’s eager to play, not wanting to sit out if healthy. He looked sharp in practice last week. Burrow missed last week's game against the Patriots, but he’s excited to play on Thanksgiving, especially against division rivals such as the Ravens.

SUMMARY: A month ago, Marcus Semien was a father of four with three years left on a lucrative contract in Texas. There’s been a couple of big changes around the house lately. Three weeks after he and his wife, Tarah, welcomed their fifth child, Semien was traded by the Rangers to the New York Mets for veteran outfielder Brandon Nimmo. And just like that, the Gold Glove second baseman was headed to a new city and his fifth major league team — first in the National League.
