Trump's Republican Party insists there's no affordability crisis and dismisses election losses

SUMMARY: Many Republican leaders insist there's no problem with the GOP's policies, the party's message or President Donald Trump’s leadership, despite big losses in this month's elections. Trump says Democrats and the media are misleading voters who are concerned about high costs and the economy. Republican officials aiming to avoid another defeat in the 2026 midterms are encouraging candidates to embrace the president fully and talk more about his accomplishments. That assessment by GOP officials shows how much the party's fate is tied to Trump. He plans to focus more on affordability but insists the economy has never been stronger: "The prices are coming down,” he told reporters Sunday night as he returned to Washington from his Florida resort.

US--Zoos-Viewing Veterinarians

Visitors to a New Jersey zoo get to watch veterinarians treat the animals

SUMMARY: The latest attraction at one New Jersey zoo isn't a particular species. It's the opportunity to see veterinarians at work with their wide range of animal patients. The Turtle Back Zoo this year became one of the relatively few U.S. zoos that routinely give the public a view of veterinary care. There’s no exact count, but it’s perhaps a dozen or fewer of the 250 animal parks accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Some zoos see putting vets on view as a form of transparency. Turtle Back Zoo officials hope it will be educational and help visitors relate to animals and get involved in conservation. The zoo's upgraded veterinary hospital opened in April. Visitors can see into the room where animals get exams.

After Joe Flacco gave the Bengals a jolt last month, loss to Steelers has team reeling

SUMMARY: The Cincinnati Bengals’ plan to have Joe Flacco keep them competitive until Joe Burrow can return from toe surgery has hit a major snag. Flacco was riding high after his first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, a 33-31 victory on Oct. 16. But the 40-year-old struggled in Sunday’s rematch, throwing a costly interception as the Bengals lost 34-12 to extend their skid to three games. Prosecutor: Antonio Brown could face 30 years in prison if guilty of attempted murder with gun

SUMMARY: Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder because a firearm was used, a prosecutor said Monday. Brown appeared via Zoom at a brief arraignment hearing in which his lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, repeated that Brown already entered a not guilty plea. He was released from jail last week on a $25,000 bond and required to wear an ankle monitor. An attempted murder charge in Florida carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence, a prosecutor said because Brown allegedly used a gun he could face double that time behind bars because of a firearm sentencing enhancement. It also carries a potential 20-year minimum mandatory sentence upon conviction.
