Trump's intervention in Washington prompts calls for its 18-term House delegate to step down
SUMMARY: Eleanor Holmes Norton has been an outspoken advocate for the District of Columbia during her 18 terms as the city's delegate in Congress. But today, longtime allies of the 88-year-old Democrat say she hasn't risen to the challenge of pushing back against the Trump administration’s intervention into her city. Norton has resisted calls to step aside and make way for a new generation of leaders, and she's indicated she plans to run next year. The race to replace her has began in earnest, with two members of the D.C. Council, including a former Norton aide, announcing campaigns.

New Jersey declares emergency as nor'easter approaches, while Alaska flooding carries away homes
SUMMARY: A nor'easter is churning up the East Coast, prompting declarations of a state of emergency in New Jersey and parts of New York state. Another storm has struck farther south with heavy rain and flooding through the Carolinas. Across the continent in western Alaska, the remnants of Typhoon Halong brought hurricane-force winds and catastrophic flooding to coastal communities, pushing entire houses off their foundations. Officials said Sunday that rescue crews headed to tiny Alaskan villages to respond to reports that up to 20 people might be unaccounted for. Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy says all efforts are being made to help storm victims.

Dozens rescued as remnants of typhoon hits Alaska while nor'easter brings flooding to East Coast
SUMMARY: Authorities say more than 30 people were rescued and three people remain unaccounted for in western Alaska after the remnants of Typhoon Halong brought hurricane-force winds and flooding strong enough to sweep away entire homes in coastal communities. Alaska State Troopers say at least 18 people were rescued in Kwigillingok, where three people remain missing. In Kipnuk, at least 16 people were rescued. Meanwhile on the East Coast, forecasters warn that major coastal flooding was likely Monday in the mid-Atlantic, particularly from Virginia to New Jersey. FlightAware, a website that tracks flight disruptions, says more than 3,000 flights have been delayed or cancelled in the U.S.

A candidate disappeared months ago after an ocean swim. Can he still win?
SUMMARY: A local candidate in the suburbs of New York City will remain on the November ballot, despite vanishing months ago after a night swim in the Atlantic Ocean. A state judge recently ruled that Democrats can’t replace Petros Krommidas as their candidate for Nassau County’s 4th Legislative District. The 29-year-old Columbia University graduate has been missing since going out for a swim in Long Beach on April 23. Local Democrats had attempted to field a new candidate, but Republicans objected and sued. Some Democrats and friends of Krommidas are calling on residents to vote for him regardless.

Rams receiver Puka Nacua leaves game vs. Ravens with a foot injury, returns in 3rd quarter
SUMMARY: Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua has returned to the game against Baltimore in the third quarter after leaving with a foot injury. After an incomplete pass intended for him in the second quarter, the star receiver was slow getting up in the end zone. He initially tried walking but quickly went back to the ground holding the lower part of his left leg. Nacua was eventually able to walk off with assistance, but he went straight to the tunnel. Rams running back Blake Corum also limped to the tunnel right behind him with an ankle problem.

Rams stuff the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens 17-3, dropping Baltimore to 1-5
SUMMARY: The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a goal-line stand and then Matthew Stafford guided them to a pair of touchdowns to begin the third quarter in a 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Rams weren’t at their best, but they didn’t have to be against a spiraling Baltimore team that was without injured quarterback Lamar Jackson for a second straight weekend. The Ravens managed a field goal on their first drive and nothing more. It was tied at 3 late in the first half when the Ravens had first-and-goal from the 4. The Rams stopped four straight runs.

Harbaugh rejects the idea of staff changes as the Ravens stagger into their bye week
SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens enter their bye week with an unthinkable 1-5 record after a 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Although star quarterback Lamar Jackson has missed the past two games, the overall state of affairs is bad enough that coach John Harbaugh was asked about the possibility of staff changes during the upcoming bye week. He said he doesn't really have any plans to do that and doesn't think there's an obvious move that would make the team better.

All the talk about the decline of the Kansas City Chiefs may have been premature
SUMMARY: All the talk about the decline of the Kansas City Chiefs was apparently premature. With Patrick Mahomes doing his magic and a stout defense, the Chiefs can beat anybody. A convincing 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions in front of a national audience on Sunday night lifted the Chiefs to 3-3. They’ve got a long way to go but they’re a much better team than the one that started 0-2. Critics were wondering if it was the end of Kansas City’s dynasty. But the Chiefs just need to get healthy and work out some kinks.

Broncos get 9 sacks and beat the winless Jets in ugly 13-11 victory in London
SUMMARY: Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass, Wil Lutz kicked a late go-ahead field goal and the Denver Broncos sacked Justin Fields nine times, with the final one sealing an ugly 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. The Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the third quarter against a Jets team that managed just 82 total net yards on offense. Nix, who was 19 of 30 for 174 yards, led Denver on a 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz’s 27-yard field with just over five minutes left.

Now what? The 0-6 Jets struggle for answers after wretched display vs. Broncos in London
SUMMARY: The New York Jets struggled badly on offense in a 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos. Justin Fields was sacked nine times and threw for just 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in franchise history — also the fewest allowed by the Broncos in their history. It was also the fewest in any NFL game since the Chargers had minus-19 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Ryan Leaf’s third career start in 1998. Jets coach Aaron Glenn says just because Fields had a bad day “doesn’t mean you just bench them.” Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson is dealing with an injury.

Aaron Rodgers throws for 2 TDs as Steelers continue home dominance of Browns in 23-9 win
SUMMARY: Aaron Rodgers passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers had little trouble with the Cleveland Browns in a 23-9 victory. The Steelers strengthened their early grip on the AFC North by continuing their home mastery of the Browns. Cleveland’s regular-season losing streak at Acrisure Stadium hit 22 games after another lifeless performance by its offense. Browns rookie Dillon Gabriel passed for 221 yards but couldn’t lead the league’s second-lowest scoring offense to the end zone as Cleveland failed to crack the 17-point barrier for the 11th consecutive game. Rodgers threw TD passes to Connor Heyward and DK Metcalf.

Penn State fires coach James Franklin amid midseason free fall in a lost season
SUMMARY: James Franklin is out at Penn State. The school fired the longtime football coach Sunday, less than 24 hours after a 22-21 home loss to Northwestern. Terry Smith will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season. The Nittany Lions began the year with hopes of winning a national title. Those hopes evaporated by early October amid a string of losses. Penn State, which reached the CFP semifinal 10 months ago, lost at home to Oregon in overtime in late September. A road loss at UCLA followed.

Dillon Gabriel can't ignite the Browns' NFL-worst offense in his 2nd career start
SUMMARY: Making his second start, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel got harassed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gabriel passed for 221 yards but couldn’t lead the league’s second-lowest scoring offense to the end zone during a 23-9 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday. Pittsburgh finished with six sacks and hit Gabriel 16 more times. The Browns failed to score 17 points in their 11th straight game dating to last season as they lost their 22nd consecutive regular-season game at Pittsburgh. Fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders was the Browns' backup quarterback for the first time, but coach Kevin Stefanski says he never considered pulling Gabriel for Sanders.
