2 Pennsylvania state police officers are shot in an exchange of gunfire with suspect who was killed
SUMMARY: Pennsylvania authorities say two state police officers have been shot in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was killed. Pennsylvania State Police say the troopers were hospitalized in critical and serious condition after Wednesday’s shooting. They had responded to a theft call at a sporting goods store and pursued a vehicle that was stopped by spike strips. Two women came out of the vehicle, but police say a man inside began shooting at the troopers. They returned fire, killing him. The shooting happened in southern Franklin County, which is northwest of Baltimore.

What to do if your flight is delayed or canceled during the US government shutdown
SUMMARY: The federal government shutdown has entered its second week, and already shortages of air traffic controllers have strained operations and disrupted flights at some U.S. airports. The situation may well get worse if the shutdown continues and employees start to miss paychecks. And there is no way to predict what airports might have problems on any given day. So be sure to check your flight's status before you head to the airport. If your flight is canceled, airlines will rebook you on a later flight. If you no longer want to take the trip, you should be able to get a refund. But each airline's policies can differ, and airlines are not required to pay cash compensation.

Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli clash over Trump, shutdown in final New Jersey governor's debate
SUMMARY: Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli have repeatedly clashed during their second and final debate in the closely watched race for New Jersey governor. The candidates on Wednesday butted heads over the federal government shutdown, Sherrill’s military records, President Donald Trump and the high cost of living in the state. Much of the debate focused on local issues as the candidates sparred about the best ways to lower costs in the notoriously expensive state. But they also debated over the shutdown, including the Trump administration’s efforts to use it as a pretext to freeze funding for the Hudson River rail project. This would replace the more than a century-old, crumbling tunnels connecting New Jersey and New York City.

Pennsylvania budget impasse is delaying financial aid for in-state college students
SUMMARY: A budget impasse in Pennsylvania is delaying financial aid for in-state college students. The PA State Grant Program gives more than 100,000 students an average of $2,000 each semester. With the state budget standoff stretching into its third month, students face another round of delays after federal glitches and software issues this summer. Even after the governor signs the budget into law, it will take at least a month for schools to begin receiving the money. Some schools are crediting students with money they expect to receive, or offering emergency grant programs. But the president of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities says private schools already have tight budgets

JuJu-less Big Ten prepares for another women's basketball season with UCLA a favorite
SUMMARY: Southern California star JuJu Watkins propelled the Trojans to a Big Ten regular-season title and a second consecutive Elite Eight appearance last season. If the Trojans want to match that success this year, they’ll need to do it without her. The absence of Watkins, who’s sidelined for the season while recovering from an ACL injury she suffered in the NCAA Tournament, has given way to UCLA becoming the lone conference powerhouse, with Maryland not far behind. The Bruins advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history after defeating the Trojans in the Big Ten tournament title game last season.

Bears' Tyrique Stevenson set to return to Washington year after embarrassing loss
SUMMARY: Tyrique Stevenson says he’s ready to return to the scene of one of the most embarrassing moments in NFL history Monday night when the Chicago Bears visit Washington. Last year, the Chicago cornerback had his back turned to the field, then rushed in and tipped Jayden Daniels’ 52-yard desperation pass to Noah Brown for a winning touchdown. Said Stevenson: “Just use it as motivation to come out and stay focused on all tasks and definitely, definitely learn to wait until the clock hits double-zeroes. Just use that as a learning curve to mature and be the cornerback that this team needs.”

Lamar Jackson still absent from Ravens practice, but Kyle Hamilton returns
SUMMARY: Lamar Jackson was again absent from practice for the Baltimore Ravens during the portion open to reporters, but star safety Kyle Hamilton was back on the field Wednesday. Jackson and Hamilton both missed last weekend’s loss to Houston. Jackson injured a hamstring the previous weekend, and Hamilton had a groin problem. Still missing for the Ravens on Wednesday were All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith and All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Tackle Ronnie Stanley was at practice after missing the Houston game. Two new additions from Tuesday — defensive backs C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Alohi Gilman — were on the field Wednesday.

The NFL’s only 0-5 team has settled in at a five-star hotel north of London this week ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Coach Aaron Glenn says, “I really love the idea of us getting away, get a chance to get in this hotel, be able to vibe together as a group, be able to understand exactly the things that we have to do to.” The rookie head coach hopes the time away will help the team reset. The Jets are coming off a 37-22 loss to Dallas.

Aaron Judge remains without World Series ring as Yankees' title drought reaches 16 years
SUMMARY: Aaron Judge's brilliant season wasn't enough to end the New York Yankees' championship drought. The Yankees lost to Toronto in the AL Division Series, marking their 16th consecutive season without a World Series title. Judge hit .500 in seven playoff games but couldn't carry the team to victory. Despite winning his first AL batting crown and being on a Hall of Fame track, Judge remains without postseason success. The Yankees' bullpen and rotation faltered against Toronto, and the team faces potential roster changes. Gerrit Cole, recovering from Tommy John surgery, expects to return by May, but the Yankees need a bullpen rebuild.
