Takeaways from AP report on Democrats already lining up for the 2028 presidential race
SUMMARY: Democrats' political jockeying for the 2028 presidential contest appears to be playing out earlier, with more frequency and with less pretense than ever before. It’s only 2025, but several potential candidates are already taking steps to get to know voters in the states that will matter most in the nomination process. And with no clear Democratic front-runner, upwards of 30 high-profile Democrats could ultimately enter the 2028 primary.

‘Who’s got next?’ Democrats already lining up for 2028 presidential race in early voting states
SUMMARY: The voters in early presidential nominating states are used to seeing contenders months or even years before most of the country. But the political jockeying in 2025 for the 2028 presidential contest appears to be playing out earlier, with more frequency and with less pretense than ever before. While the first presidential primary votes won’t be cast for another two and a half years, three Democratic presidential prospects are scheduled to campaign in South Carolina for 10 days this month. Nearly a half dozen others have made recent pilgrimages to South Carolina, New Hampshire and Iowa. This week, both Kentucy Gov. Andy Beshear and Rep. Ro Khanna will be in South Carolina.

The biggest piece of Mars on Earth is going up for auction in New York

The natural history-themed sale on Wednesday features a 54-pound hunk of Mars estimated at $2 million to $4 million. The auction house also is selling a juvenile Ceratosaurus dinosaur skeleton that’s more than 6 feet tall and nearly 11 feet long. That's estimated at $4 million to $6 million.

One year after Trump assassination attempt, changes at Secret Service but questions remain
SUMMARY: A year after the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump during a Butler, Pennsylvania campaign rally, and the results from various investigations into the shooting are still coming. The Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs in a report released Sunday said the Secret Service denied “multiple requests for additional staff, assets, and resources to protect President Trump” during the campaign. Another report by the Government Accountability Office criticized the Secret Service’s practices for sharing threat information, saying they had “siloed information sharing practices.” One rallygoer was killed and two others wounded when a gunman opened fire from a nearby roof. A bullet grazed Trump's ear.

A year after Trump's near-assassination, friends and allies see some signs of a changed man
SUMMARY: One year after Donald Trump's near-assassination at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, friends and allies see some signs of a changed man. While largely the same brash Trump, they say he is more attentive and more grateful and speaks openly about how he believes he was saved by God to save the country and serve a second term. And while many who survive traumatic events try to block them from memory, Trump has instead surrounded himself with memorabilia commemorating the episode. He’s decorated the White House and his golf clubs with art pieces depicting the moment after the shooting when he thrust his fist in the air and chanted, “Fight, fight, fight!”

The challenger who narrowly lost to GOP Rep. Scott Perry wants another chance to beat him in 2026
SUMMARY: Democrat Janelle Stelson is challenging Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Perry again after losing to him in 2024 by barely a percentage point in a right-leaning congressional district in Pennsylvania. She made her announcement Monday. Stelson is a one-time local TV anchor and personality. Perry’s campaign says Perry’s fundraising has been its strongest since he’s been in Congress, and that the issues that propelled President Donald Trump and Perry to victories in 2024 will still be relevant in 2026. With Washington completely controlled by Republicans, Democrats need to flip just three seats nationwide to retake the House majority and block Trump’s agenda.

Aaron Judge is barreling toward the hallowed 500-homer club. He might be joined by several peers
SUMMARY: Aaron Judge became the fastest player in MLB history to reach 350 home runs on Saturday. It feels inevitable that the Bronx slugger will eventually join the hallowed 500-homer club in the coming years. He might have some company. Roughly a dozen players could reach 500 over the next decade, including Mike Trout, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. The group is reminiscent of a stretch from 2001 to 2009 when Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. were among nine sluggers to reach 500.
