US--BIDEN

Nodule found in former President Joe Biden’s prostate during routine physical exam

SUMMARY: A small nodule has been found in the prostate of former President Joe Biden during a routine physical exam. A short statement says the finding “necessitated further evaluation,” but it’s not clear whether that has already taken place or the outcome of the examination. The detection of nodules in the prostate generally requires a further exam by a urologist to rule out prostate cancer. These kinds of abnormal growths can be caused by cancer or by less serious conditions, including inflammation or an enlarged prostate. Biden’s age and concerns about his health were cited by Democratic leaders who pressed him to abandon his reelection bid in 2024 following a disastrous debate performance last June.

US--BALTIMORE-WAREHOUSE FIRE

More than 200 firefighters battle massive warehouse blaze in Baltimore, no injuries reported

SUMMARY: A massive blaze in a mattress warehouse in Baltimore has been contained to the building after a response including more than 200 firefighters. The Baltimore City Fire Department says they found heavy fire at the multi-story mattress warehouse Monday evening. About 30 people living in nearby homes were temporarily evacuated. Fire spokesperson John Marsh says firefighters were chasing hotspots and a deep-seated fire in multiple locations on Tuesday morning. The building is next to railroad tracks, forcing Amtrak delays Tuesday between Washington and Baltimore. All commuter rail service on the Penn line remains canceled Tuesday amid concerns that the building may collapse onto the tracks.

Newark mayor returns to immigration detention center days after trespassing arrest

SUMMARY: Newark Mayor Ras Baraka briefly returned to the gates of the federal immigration detention center where he was arrested last week on trespassing charges. Baraka is a Democrat running for governor in the June 10 primary. US--DEMOCRATS-LATINOS

To reach Latinos, some Democrats pivot to talk more about the economy and less about immigration

SUMMARY: Democrats have long focused on immigration when courting Latino voters in states like Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey and Florida, where generations of Latin American immigrants have settled and gained permanent legal status. But Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory and the rightward shift in Latino communities around the country are making some liberals reconsider their traditional wisdom. Liberal strategists, organizers and some politicians are urging Democrats to focus on the economy in this year’s elections. Some argue a broad economic message would be more effective with the wide range of nationalities and experiences in the Latino community rather than customized efforts based on perceived cultural or political interests.

US--ELECTION 2025-NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR

Trump backs Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey’s Republican primary for governor

SUMMARY: President Donald Trump endorsed Republican Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey’s GOP primary, saying he’s gone “ALL IN” on the “Make America Great Again” agenda. Trump’s endorsement came Monday in a Truth Social post and gives Ciattarelli’s campaign a boost as he competes against two other Trump supporters and a state senator who has been critical of the president. The primary is June 10. The president’s endorsement and Ciattarelli’s gratitude to Trump in a social media post of his own reflect the president’s influence in the party, even in Democratic-leaning New Jersey.

ML--MIDEAST WARS

Hamas releases Israeli-American hostage in goodwill gesture toward Trump administration

SUMMARY: Hamas has freed an Israeli-American soldier who was held hostage in Gaza for more than 19 months. The release offered a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration. The deal could lay the groundwork for a new ceasefire with Israel. Edan Alexander was released to the Red Cross, which transferred him to the Israeli military. His release was the first since Israel shattered an eight-week ceasefire with Hamas in March and unleashed fierce strikes on Gaza that have killed hundreds of Palestinians. Alexander was reunited with his mother before being flown to a hospital in Tel Aviv.
