About 250 veterans are expected to attend the seventh annual Mason Dixon Stand Down Oct. 23 to 25.

They will gather at the American Legion Post No. 64 on Route 50, near the armory, and receive information about services they and their families are entitled to, including emergency shelter, long-term housing, medical care and counseling, according to John Iwanski, finance officer for the American Legion.

Officials from the Veterans Administration and Disabled American Veterans will be there. Meals will be provided Friday and Saturday. There is no charge.

Veterans in need, or homeless, will have the opportunity to get a haircut and shave, shower and receive clothing, according to John Iwanski, finance officer for the American Legion.

A Stand Down is a Veterans Administration and Department of Labor-sanctioned event for veterans and their families.

“This is an opportunity to get together and get as much information as possible. This is a major event in terms of providing information and for those veterans that who have been stymied and have had problems or a lack of success trying to get their issues addressed,” Iwanski said.

On Sunday, representatives will be there to discuss issues specific to women.

 “This have been very successful. Veterans will be getting together and learning about a multitude of issues, from financial hardships, homeless issues, education, how they can get to school, if veterans’ children can go to school on their bill. There are a lot of questions,” Iwanski said.

All services are free. Hours will be 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
