Mary Christina Donaghy (Sissy, Murry Murry, Mrs. D.) was born on Feb. 8, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pa. She is the daughter of the late James Waters and Mary DiGiacomo. Moving to the Eastern Shore in 1968, Sissy will be fondly remembered for her bright smile and great sense of humor to play jokes, tell scary stories, commenting on sexy men (esp. David Bowie Labrinyth), her home cooking, being a swim team Mom and making everything an adventure. She traveled from Cambridge to Key West, Hawaii, and Maine and places in between.
Mrs. D. got neighborhood kids hooked on Dark Shadows, taught her grandson some curse words while watching the Orioles, scared the crap out of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews with added animations when "Jeremy" would appear. Let's not talk about the blinking blue light that emptied the dining room instantly… everyone running and screaming for the stairs and trying to get up them at the same time.
Being compassionate, beautiful, and kind, Mary mentored many young people, treating them like her own and holding them to the same high standards she had for her own children. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed entertaining. She always lathered the sunscreen on those around her in the summer months, she made pancakes in the shape of cartoon characters, made the best fried potatoes and onions, and crispy scrapple. Many a story was told at the kitchen table while eating roasted red peppers and garlic in olive oil with a good crust Italian bread. And for some reason she enjoyed dressing her sons alike which carried over to her grandchildren wearing matching outfits and going off to camp. When her children were older Mary worked at the Department of Social Services for nearly three decades.
Mary leaves behind her brother, Tom (Joann); sons, John (Theresa), Jim (Kris) and Tom (Leyla); and daughter, Mary. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Megan, John, Caroline, Amber, Bekah, Javier, Ian, Kanani, and Tess; as well as her great-grandchildren, Kimber, Jackson, Ava, Brandon, Robert and Noah. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Jimmy; son, Mike; daughter, Trisha; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Mostly Mary will be remembered for her kind heart, firm hugs, many kisses, and her undying smile as she would greet you. She leaves you with Alan Jackson's "Sissy's Song". She will be waiting for you on the other side with a big smile and hug!! Waving……
