TANGIER ISLAND, Va. - Mary Alice Shores, affectionately known as "Bubs," went to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home, Crisfield, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's dementia. Born Nov. 6, 1928, on Tangier Island, she was a daughter of the late George Edward and Lola Landon Parks. Her husband, James Edward "Puck" Shores, preceded her in death in 1965. A graduate of Tangier High School, she was a retired teachers aid. She was a faithful member of the New Testament Church, and loved gardening and bird watching. She is survived by two sons, Rudy Shores and his wife Carlene, and Russell Shores and his wife Hope, all of Tangier; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Ella Parks Wheatley, Jennie Parks Crockett and Edward Vance Parks. Funeral services will were 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at New Testament Church on Tangier, where friends called Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Bill Pruitt and Carlene Shores officiated. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Testament Church, Attention: Treasurer John W. Charnock, Tangier, VA 23440.
