Martha Elba Gootee Mowbray

Martha Elba Gootee Mowbray, 84

CAMBRIDGE - Martha Elba Gootee Mowbray, of Cambridge, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Dorchester General Hospital. She was 84. Born on Jan. 3, 1925, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Herman E. Gootee and Lottie M. Lane Gootee. Mrs. Mowbray was a graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1943. On Dec. 15, 1945, she married Roland Mowbray. Mr. Mowbray died on Dec. 24, 1977. For 30 years, Mrs. Mowbray had worked for A & P Foods Store, Cambridge, as a cashier. Mrs. Mowbray was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge and a member of the Dr. Hines Bible Class. Mrs. Mowbray was an avid reader and she had enjoyed taking care of gardens when her health permitted. Surviving is a daughter, Carolyn Holliday and her husband Andrew G. Holliday Jr., of Cambridge; a grandson, Brian Andrew Holliday; two grandchildren, Alyssa Diane Holliday and Colton Andrew Holliday; nieces; nephews; and her cat Tiger. Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband, was a brother, Everett E. Gootee. The family will receive friends today, April 1, 2009, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Jay Hurley. Burial will follow in East New Market Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Short Jr., Kurt Riehl, Ronny Thomas, David Marshall Jr., Guy Willey Jr., and Phil Roath. Memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Mowbray's memory to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Cambridge Emergency Medical Services, PO Box 255, Cambridge, MD 21613.
