The Westside Historical Society’s 28th Annual Festival will be held Saturday at the Mardela Springs Recreation Park.

The parade starts at 9:45 a.m. on Main Street. There will be a vintage car, truck and motorcycle show, as well as an antique tractor pull at 1 p.m.

The festival is free admission and there is free parking.

There are exhibits of trappers and hunters, Indian artifacts, carved “Tonging Shafts,” antique tools, coins and bottles.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s K-9 demonstration and Command Unit will be there. There will be horse rides, a petting zoo, duck pond and Clue game.

Stigma 5k scheduled Saturday at Court Plaza

The second-annual eRace, The Stigma 5K, will be held in Salisbury on Saturday to increase mental health awareness.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Stigma 5k/1 mile run/walk is planned to help with a broader understanding of mental health issues.

The event will be held at Salisbury Bible Fellowship in the Court Plaza on Pine Bluff Road in Salisbury. Participants will receive a shirt and can register at rundelmarva.wordpress.com or register the day of the event.

Same-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. Runners and walkers

are welcome, as well as pets and strollers.

The cost is $25 and includes a shirt (cost goes up $5 the day of the event).

Veterans Appreciation Day is May 21 at Poplar Hill

Poplar Hill Mansion will be honoring members of the Armed Forces on Veterans Appreciation Day, Saturday, May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Veterans and their families are welcome as well as the public. Vietnam veterans will also be honored for the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

This free celebration is open to the public. A small reception will follow the brief program and will include light refreshments. Veterans organizations and nonprofits are invited to set up a table to let veterans know what you do.

Flower show to be held Wednesday

The Town and Country Garden Club of Salisbury is its spring flower show, “Let’s Go To Rio! – Summer Olympics 2016,” on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Salisbury.

This free event is open to the public and will feature divisions in design and horticulture.

The design division  “Dreams and Goals for Victory” will feature arrangements and table artistry such as “The Olympic Torch Arrives,” “A Gala Welcome,” “Olympians on Parade,” “Standing Proud on the Podium,” “A Toast to the Winners” and “Go for the Gold.”

The horticultural division, “Flowers on High” will demonstrate excellence in herbaceous, perennial, biennial and hardy annuals, among others. Specimens such as iris, peony, rose, day lily, tulip, azalea, rhododendron and a variety of herbs will be on display.

The National Garden Club Standard System of Awards will be used for judging.

Kidney Foundation Walk is Sunday

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland will hold its eighth annual Salisbury Kidney Walk, Sunday at Winterplace Park.

Approximately 600 people are expected to participate in the fun, inspiring, community fundraiser, which calls attention to the need for organ donation and prevention of kidney disease, which is the 9th leading cause of death in the United States and kills more people every year than breast cancer or prostate cancer.

Registration and festivities begin at 9 a.m.  Following warm-up exercises and announcements by WMDT-TV Meteorologist Daniel Johnson, the Walk will kick off at 10 a.m.

Participants can choose from a 3-mile route or shorter path for strollers and wheelchairs. Adding to the fun, everyone can enjoy refreshments from Panera Bread and Aquafina, music by Moonbeam Entertainment and the Kidney Kids Corner with face painting and games.

Funds raised through Kidney Walk will directly support NKF-MD’s patient services, education and research efforts. There is no registration fee and participants who raise a minimum of $100 will earn a Kidney Walk T-shirt.
