Posted

Jeremiah Townsend, 19, of Salisbury, was convicted of second-degree attempted murder and using a handgun in the commission of a violent crime.

The charges against Townsend arose out of an incident that occurred in January 2014 in the area of Hammond Street.

According to court documents, Townsend and others were in a home in the area playing dice.  Townsend and the victim became involved in a verbal altercation and Townsend shot the victim in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to PRMC where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Townsend was sentenced in the Wicomico County Circuit Court to 20 years active incarceration. He is currently serving an eight-year sentence in Delaware on gun charges; he will have to serve the eight years in Delaware prior to beginning his Maryland sentence.

State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello commended the Salisbury City Police, and investigating Officer, Dean Popovich for his work in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
