HURLOCK - Mamie Lee Gibson, 87, known to many as "Mom," passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Coastal Hospice at Deer Head in Salisbury with her husband, Leroy Gibson, by her side.
Mrs. Gibson was born April 14, 1919, in Hampton, S.C., to the late John and Mabell Smith. She later married Woodrow Wilson Scriven Sr. and they had two children, Woodrow Wilson Scriven Jr. and Nancy Scriven-Molock, both of Cambridge.
After Mr. Scriven passed away, she traveled with her children to Maryland. There she joined First Baptist Church of God in Christ and later in life joined First Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Gibson was employed by Bumble Bee in Cambridge.
In 1983 she married Leroy Gibson in Easton and they moved to Williamsburg Church Road in Hurlock.
Mrs. Gibson retired in the late '90s. She raised her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a person she called "her baby," Roberta Ruth.
She is survived by her husband of Hurlock; two children, Woodrow Wilson Scriven Jr. and Nancy Scriven Molock, both of Cambridge; one son-in-law, Tyrone Molock of Cambridge; two sisters, Emily Borden and Mabel Fountain of Richmond, Va.; a brother, James Smith Sr. of Vaughnville, S.C.; three brothers-in-law, Gerald Gibson of Easton, Charles Gibson of Philadelphia and Richard Gibson of Camden, N.J.; three sisters-in-law, Ida Gibson of Easton, Lucille Gibson of Philadelphia and Francis Thomas of Easton. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Ray Anthony Scriven Sr. and Sandra Scriven, Hillque and Pamela Scriven, all from Dayton, Ohio, Yolanda Scriven Wilkins, Michell Scriven, Linda Harper, all of Cambridge, John Wilkins Sr. of Baltimore, Jason Scott, Tywan Fuller Scriven and Nathaniel Scriven, all of South Carolina, Gloria Williams of Pembroke, Ga., Shaun Scriven and Equana Maloy of Florida and many other grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, two of which are special grandchildren, Tysheka Cephas Elliott and LaToy Johnson; seven great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Smith, Frank Smith, John Smith, all from Hampton, D.C.; and two sisters, Adei Right and Ora Singleton, both of Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Church of Nazarene. Burial will be at the Washington Cemetery in Hurlock.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Fuenral home in Hurlock and on Saturday between noon and 1 p.m. at the church.
