MAC Inc. grants can help seniors get online

Posted

Getting connected virtually is more important than ever.

Lower Shore seniors can learn a new skill that can improve their life and health, by enabling them to:

  •         Attend tele-health appointments.
  •         Connect with MAC services.
  •         Keep in touch with family and friends.
  •         Fight isolation.

MAC is helping Lower Shore seniors get – and stay - connected through its free tablet/WiFi distribution program.

The program provides free Samsung 8 tablets with two years of AT&T unlimited data, and tech support. No Internet service is required. A limited number of tablets are available.

Tablets would be particularly useful to those who can’t access needed services due to lack of transportation, are concerned about going out in public due to the continued presence of COVID-19, or perhaps caregivers who lack respite care.

Participants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  •         Be a resident of Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester or Somerset County.
  •         Be age 60 or older.
  •         Qualify as low-income: Annual income of $19,140 per person; or $26,130 for a couple.
  •         Currently lack stable Internet access.
  •         Have the ability to use a standard tablet.
  •         Be willing to participate in a free health program through MAC.

Training on use of the tablet will be provided, but basic knowledge of a smart device is highly recommended.
