Lyle F. Creager

Lyle F. Creager, 88

CAMBRIDGE - Lyle F. Creager, 88, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Mallard Bay Care Center.

He was born at Goodnight, Okla. on April 11, 1920, and was the son of the late Allen and Josephine Waite Creager.

He attended schools in Oklahoma where he graduated from High School. Lyle was first married to Edna Lorraine Simpson on March 17, 1942. He was later married Pearl Smith on Sept. 18, 1993. She passed away on Nov. 26, 2002.

Some years ago, he had worked as a carpenter. During WWII, he worked for the government building gliders in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Illinois. After WWII he returned to doing carpentry work. He moved to Maryland in 1949 and for most of his life worked as a construction superintendent building houses, apartments, motels and shopping centers.

Lyle enjoyed woodworking and square dancing. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Dorchester Swingers.

He had been in failing health for the past two years, and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center since early May.

Survivors include one daughter, Lyndia C. Self of Huntingtown; one son, Billy R. Creager of Onley, Va.; five grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Scott Verbin, Amy Videla, Bryan D. Self, Kimberly Rey Creager and Catherine Creager; several great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren; one sister, Edith Henry of Stillwater, Okla. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Creager and Norris Creager.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, c/o Lynn Morris, 4831 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist St., Salisbury, MD 21802.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
