CAMBRIDGE - Lola Creighton Lucas, 88, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
She was born at Hoopers Island on July 3, 1918, and was a daughter of the late Arthur Willey and Ethel M. Creighton.
Mrs. Lucas attended schools at Hoopers Island. On Feb. 2, 1946, she was married to Fred W. Lucas. Mr. Lucas passed away on March 11, 1987.
Some years ago Mrs. Lucas had worked at the C&P Telephone Co. in Baltimore as a telephone operator, and later she worked at Leggett Department Store in Cambridge for a number of years. She later worked at the Bay Country Shop in Cambridge, where she had continued working up until about a week ago.
Mrs. Lucas was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge, and enjoyed traveling with her husband and later with family and friends. Mrs. Lucas enjoyed sewing as well as doing needlepoint, cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Cambridge Country Club and the Democratic Club.
She had been a patient at the Johns Hopkins Hospital since last Thursday.
Survivors include three daughters: Jacqueline Jones-Benjamin, and her husband, James Benjamin, Donna S. Towers, and her husband, F. Wayne Towers, Patricia L. Hopkins and her husband, C.A. Porter Hopkins, all of Cambridge; two sons, John F. Lucas and his wife, Ruthanna W. Lucas of East New Market and Robert W. Lucas and his wife, Sandra N. Lucas of Cambridge. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith C. Asplen of Easton; one brother, Eugene Creighton and his wife, Adeline Creighton of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Laurena Collemer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church on Race Street in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on tonight from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., in Cambridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
Pallbearers will be Brian Lucas, Scott Lucas, Steve Jones, Grason Jones, J.R. Atkinson, Steve Wheatley, William O'Day and Neal D'Adamo.
