Playing in his first Green Hill Country Club Men’s Championship in a decade, Mitch Wyatt captured his 15th crown Sunday at the course in Quantico.

“It was great getting back out and playing some competitive golf,” said Wyatt, who posted scores of 75-73 to win by by 8 shots over Ryan DeVage, who shot 80-75.

Wyatt, an Eastern Shore Golf Hall of Fame inductee who had dominated local golf since the mid-1980s, had backed off from his competitive endeavours even before confronting some physical challenges.

“I hadn't played in a club championship since 2006,” said Wyatt. “I have been in physical therapy for nine months with an injured left shoulder -- it was so bad I thought I would need surgery, it’s 90 percent better now. I’m getting rid of a lot of swing rust.”

Dr. Ray Hoy finished third with scores of 81-76; Brandon Havas was fourth, shooting 85-73.

Across town at Nutters Crossing Golf Club, Carl Whyte defended his 2014 championship, shooting 73-70 to beat Brian Briggs by seven shots.

Briggs posted scores of 73-77; Tony Plummer finished third with scores of 76-75.
