Lindley Roberts

ELDORADO, Md. - Lindley Roberts, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his residence. Born January 25, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Ben Booth Roberts and Frances Osbourn Roberts. He served in the US Marines from 1937 to 1957 during both WWII and the Korean War. Following his retirement, he attended Salisbury State Teachers College and graduated in 1961. After teaching for three years, he then changed careers and went to work in sales for Sauerhoff Cadillac in Salisbury. He later worked for Dorchester County Health Department as an inspector, retiring after twenty years of service. He was a past member of Sharptown Lions Club where he had served as president and was a member of Dor-Wic American Legion Post #218 in Sharptown. He is survived by two daughters, Ellin H. Halgunseth and her husband Leon of San Diego, Calif., and Patricia R. Jones of Wilmington, Del; two sons, David A. Roberts of Richmond, Va., and Thomas L. Roberts of Secretary; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie May Roberts who died on July 24, 2004; a brother, Benjamin Roberts; and a half-sister, Jane Waller. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market Pastor Glenn H. Lyburn officiated. Interment followed at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Beulah. Memorial donations may be made to Sharptown Lions Club, c/o Brinsfield Lowe, P. O. Box 139, Sharptown, MD 21861.
