Lillian Waters

CAMBRIDGE - Lillian Waters transitioned peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Chesapeake Woods Center. Born October 12, 1915 in Cambridge, Md. Lillian was the daughter of John and Marie Turpin. Lillian was educated in Dorchester County Public Schools. At an early age, she became a member of Waugh Chapel. She sang with the senior choir, Masons Choral Club and the Jackson Chorale. Lillian Waters and James Fisher were united in marriage in 1933. From this union there were three children, Christine, Debbie and Terry. Lillian was employed by private families and later retired from Nathan's Furniture Store . It was Lillian's dream and ambition to make positive contributions to her church and community. Her community involvement was extensive. Lillian sponsored trips to Radio City, Sight and Sound and shopping to Lancaster, Pa. She raised funds for the church by sponsoring baby contest, window and penny rallies. She also sponsored flower pageants, the King and Queen and state rally. One of the last trips sponsored was to Bethel A.M.E Church, Baltimore, Md. Lillian was President of the Mes' Ames Social Literary Club and Carnations Club which was instrumental in supporting the library located on Pine Street and Dorchester General Hospital. Lastly, Lillian organized the Progressive Guild to raise funds for Waugh Church and scholarships for youth. Lillian loved her church and her family. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Fisher; husband, Samuel Waters; and brother, Henry Jackson. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Christine Wingate and Deborah Fisher both of Cambridge, Md.; a step daughter, Joyce Richardson, Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Marva Sampson, East New Market, Md.; one granddaughter, Sheri Wingate, Glen Burnie, Md.; a niece and several nephews. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 at Waugh Chapel UM Church, 425 High St Cambridge, Md. with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in the church cemetery.
