The Friends of Wicomico Public Libraries will host their Fourth Annual Light of Literacy Awards on Thursday, April 7, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.  Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at all Library locations and online at lightofliteracy.org.

The Light of Literacy Awards recognizes the power of everyday individuals doing extraordinary work in promoting the power of literacy throughout the community. The Light of Literacy Awards brings together leaders from around the area to recognize those who are luminaries in our community, lighting the way by their example.  By recognizing individuals and organizations who promote literacy and by raising public awareness of their work, the Friends hope to multiply their efforts and the effect they have in the community.

Below is a list of the 2016 Light of Literacy Awards Nominees:

Adult Award: Barbara Bennett, George Demko, Andrew Heller, Beverly Horner, Pat Layton, Jane Reagan, Kara Dahl Russell, Brice Stump.

Business Award:  Avery Hall Insurance Company, Salt Water Media.

Educator Award: Christy Briggs, Mary K. Davis, Tara A. Elliott, Dr. Margo Handy, Lindsay McCauley.

Higher Education Award:  Eastern Correctional Institution & Salisbury University, Nancy Michelson, Bill Robinson, Dr. Timothy Stock.

Non-Profit Award: Community of Joy Church, Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore, Maryland Legal Aid Bureau Lower Shore, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club.

Youth Award: Trent Pitoniak, Alison Sahler, Breanna Soldatelli, Samantha Wiersberg.

Wicomico Public Libraries are located in Downtown Salisbury, the Centre at Salisbury, in Pittsville, and the Library Bookmobile.
