
CAMBRIDGE - Levin Matthew Elzey, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, Mar. 28, 2017, at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Cambridge on March 19, 1936, and was a son of the late Austin Arthur "Oscar" Elzey and Rose Gray Elzey.
Mr. Elzey attended schools in Dorchester County. On June 15, 1957, he married the former Effie Mae Creighton. He served in the Army National Guard for 13 years. Levin worked for Cambridge, Inc. for over 40 years. He also had Elzey's Refuse Service and several rental properties. After retirement, he joined the "potato peelers" on Thursday before the Community Oyster Dinner at Linkwood Salem Fire Company. Levin was a registered Republican and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and Army National Guard Post #88.
He is survived by his wife, Effie Elzey, of Cambridge; two sons, Levin M. Elzey, Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Hurlock, and Mark Alan Elzey and wife, Alicia, of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Kyle Christopher Elzey, Kristin Nicole Elzey and Austin Alan Elzey and girlfriend, Amanda Woehike and her daughter, Annabelle; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Wilson and Hayden Temple; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Elzey was preceded in death by four sisters, Martha Marie Slacum, Gertie Lee Bradford, Ethel Mae Hall and Betty Rose Elliott; eight brothers, Arthur Elzey, Jefferson L. Elzey, Billy Mace Elzey, William T. Elzey, Lindberg Elzey, John F. Elzey, Roy E. Elzey and Otis W. Elzey.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Mar. 31, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev.'s Richard and Sharon Prahl officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
