CAMBRIDGE - Leon M. Adkins, 86, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007.

He was born in Cambridge on Nov. 13, 1920, and was the son of the late Leon M. and Cornelia Warst Adkins Sr.

He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937. On Nov. 21, 1940, he was married to the former Ruth Hughes.

Mr. Adkins was a member of St. Paul"s United Methodist Church, where he had started the Memorial Fund, and had also been active in a number of various functions at St. Paul"s Church. Some years ago he had also helped begin the cleanup at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Adkins was an honorary member of Rescue Fire Co. in Cambridge. Some years ago he was a founding partner in Adho refuse removal in Cambridge and for numerous years he had worked as a service manager for Don Bennett"s Chrysler in Cambridge and for many years at Johnson Motors in Cambridge.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth H. Adkins of Cambridge; one daughter, Anna Ruth Pope and her husband, David R. Pope of Cambridge; two granddaughters, Dee Mills and her husband, Steve M. Mills Sr. of Woolford and Michelle R. Pope of Cambridge and two great-grandsons, Stevie Mills Jr. and David "Cole" Mills.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at St. Paul"s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Bahr, the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley and the the Rev. Thomas W. Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul"s United Methodist Church, c/o Richard Hargis, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD or to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be Steve Mills, Stevie Mills, Cole Mills, Tim McCarter, Ben McCarter, Eddie Bramble, Claude Gootee, Mark Gootee and Gary White.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
