SALISBURY, Md. - Lenora Frances Smith (Fran) passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 at her home in Salisbury, Md.
Born in Stonington, Maine on January 30, 1940, she was the only child of George Hubert and Lorena Geraldine Klein. Stonington was the home of her mother. Her father, a native of Maryland, was in Maine as a worker for the Deer Isle Granite Company as a stone cutter. The family later moved to Maryland for wartime employment. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Annapolis High School in 1958 and the Strayer Business School of Baltimore in 1959. On August 8, 1959, she wed Charles F. Smith, Jr. of Covington, La. whom she met while he was attached to the Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Md. They settled in Hammond, La. where he was in the second year of a music teaching degree at Southeastern Louisiana College. She worked while there as a secretary in the Business Office at the College. In 1962, her husband enrolled at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. toward a Master of Music degree. She was employed with the Bureau of Printing and Engraving for the year, one where they enjoyed many opportunities available in our nation's Capitol.
They moved to Salisbury, Md. in 1963 where her husband was employed as a music teacher at the James M. Bennett High School. Their sons, Joel Raymond and Jeffrey Blake were born in 1964 and 1971 respectively. She was employed at Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development for eight years before eventually joining the family business as the bookkeeper at Salisbury Music & Instrument Repair.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 11 a.m. in Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, 21804. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Granite Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Granite, Md., joining the resting place of her parents as well as many relatives who were residents of the area.
Survivors are her husband, Charles; son, Joel Raymond; daughter-in-law, Amy; grandson, Evan Blake; and son, Jeffrey Blake. Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
A reception was held Tuesday immediately following services at the Jackson Memorial Building at Trinity United Methodist Church, 112 High Street, Salisbury, Md.
