King events scheduled Monday at Civic Center

The 34th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday dinner and commemoration banquet, with youth activities in the morning, is planned for Monday, Jan. 21 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

The banquet will be in the Normandy Arena at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $40 each.

The annual and well-attended event is in honor of King, an American Baptist minister and nonviolent activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights movement until he was assassinated.

The Atlanta native died in Memphis on April 4, 1968 at the age of 39.

From 8:30 a.m.to noon on Jan. 21, the 33rd Annual Youth Activity will be in the Normandy Arena of the Civic Center.

Guests will be served a free breakfast during presentations by youth speakers and entertainment including youth praise dancers and youth choirs.

Bus transportation will be provided at no charge.

Those attending are asked to take canned goods to donate to the Maryland Food Bank.
