Kenning J. "K.J." Davis Jr.

CAMBRIDGE - Kenning J. "K.J." Davis Jr., 42, passed away at his home on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007.

He was born in Cambridge on June 7, 1965 and was the son of Claudette Anderson Davis and the late Kenning J. Davis Sr.

K.J. graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School in 1983. He attended Towson State University where he graduated with a B.S. in music and special education. After college he taught school in Baltimore, Talbot County, in St. Michaels and Tilghman and also in Dorchester County.

From 1980 until 1983 he was a member of the Skipjack Players in Cambridge. K.J. was an accomplished pianist and from the late 1980s to the early 1990s he was an accompanist at the F. Scott Black Dinner Theatre in Baltimore and in the mid 90s was accompanist with the Maryland Arts Festival production in Baltimore.

Since 1989 he had been the Musical Director for the Cambridge-South Dorchester Senior Class Play, and since 1994 he had been the Musical Director for the alternative Community Theatre in Cambridge, and since 1999 K.J. had been an actor as well as accompanist with the Dorchester Unity Players in Cambridge. K.J. had also served as organist, accompanist as well as choral director for numerous churches in Cambridge, Towson and Salisbury.

He had been in failing health for the past 18 months.

Survivors include his mother, Claudette A. Davis of Cambridge; an aunt and uncle, Peggy L. Anderson and Tommy Anderson of Cambridge and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge on Tuesday with the Rev. Fred Bahr officiating.
