Kenneth Ray 'Nice' Pruitt Sr., 84

TANGIER, VA - Mr. Kenneth Ray "Nice" Pruitt Sr., husband of Virginia "Joyce" Bowden Pruitt and a lifelong resident of Tangier, Va., passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He was 84. Born June 29, 1925, he was the son of the late Vernon Pruitt and Maggie Parks Pruitt. Nice was a waterman, member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, the AARP, and the Redmen Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Dean Pruitt; a sister, Virginia Pruitt; two brothers, Vernon "Flapper" Pruitt and Harold Gordon Pruitt; and one grandchild. Other than his wife, survivors include three children, Kenneth Ray Pruitt Jr. of Tangier, Va., Carol Marzahn of Virginia Beach, Va., and Deborah Gay Pruitt of Tangier, Va.; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patricia Stover, Mr. Strickland Crockett and Mr. Bill Pruitt officiated. Interment followed in the Wheatley Family Cemetery. There was a visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the church.
