CHURCH CREEK - Josephine Harriett Woolford went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 in Easton. She was born on Oct. 24, 1933, to the late Mr. & Mrs. Hanson Stanley. Mrs. Woolford was a lifetime resident of Church Creek, Md. Mrs. Woolford attended the public schools in Dorchester County and later married Thomas Woolford on Dec. 27, 1955. She held several jobs but retired from Coldwater Seafood after 30 years of employment. Mrs. Woolford was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church of Cambridge for over 50 years. She served on the Usher Board, as a Communion Steward and a member of the "Chicken Pluckers". She was also a member of the Household of Ruth and the Silver Leaf Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining. Mrs. Woolford was known as the "roll lady" by anyone who was fortunate enough to taste them unless you were tasting one of her sweet potato pies. Sewing was something she enjoyed as well as providing for her family. Along with her hobbies she loved to celebrated family, friends and life in ways that went far beyond the 4th of July celebrations, the family reunions and weddings held at her house. She was the matriarch of the family who brought smiles and love to everyone she met. She never said No; she'd say, "I'll see what I can do". Her favorite scripture was Jeremiah 17:8: "They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought." She will be loved and missed by everyone who knew her. Heaven is rejoicing tonight with the addition of an angel. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Woolford and a godchild, Calvin Spicer as well as numerous brothers and sisters. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she is mourned by her loved ones, a son, Joseph Woolford of Cambridge; a daughter, Alice Johnson (Marshall), of Easton; five siblings, Clara Brisco, Rachel Miller and Mardella Opher, all of Cambridge, Harold "Sonny-Boy" (Elsie) Stanley of Church Creek and Walter Stanley (Joan) of Baltimore; a niece raised as a sister, Caroline Spicer of Philadelphia, Pa.; one aunt, Bertha Robinson Mack of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Thomas D. Woolford of Easton and Jessica Thompson of East New Market; godchildren, Joan Harris of East New Market and Michael White II of Virginia Beach, Va. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Homegoing service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 12 noon at St. Luke UM Church 712 Bradley Ave Cambridge. There is no public viewing. She will be laid to rest in Hughes Mission Cemetery Maple Dam Rd Cambridge. Condolences sent to www.henryfuneralhomepa.com.
