Joseph Thomas Schmidt, age 71 of Salisbury, Maryland passed peacefully at his home on December 10, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 10, 1953; he was the son of Walter J. Schmidt and Marie Connors Schmidt. Joe had a passion for photography and served as a certified retinal angiographer at Albany Medical Center. In 1990, he moved to Salisbury, Maryland where he helped start an ophthalmic practice now known as Chesapeake Eye Center, and served there as a certified retinal angiographer and certified ophthalmic assistant until his retirement. Joe was very technologically savvy. While Joe’s main talent and love was ophthalmic photography, he performed all aspects of ophthalmic testing and was instrumental in helping Chesapeake Eye Center successfully advance with technology in the digital world. Those who knew Joe well loved his big heart, quick wit, sensitive soul, giving spirit, generosity and deep loyalty. He was committed to his patients and to providing quality eye care. Joe will be deeply missed by his adopted Maryland family; Dr. Catherine Smoot-Haselnus and Ron Haselnus, Keith and Joanne Berdan, June Moore, Becky and Jeff Merritt, and Sherry and Hugh Dishman. He is mourned by a large surviving family; sisters Kathleen Breineder, Mary Anne Ainsworth, Margaret Kubicki and brothers, Edward, Walter, John, William, and Robert Schmidt.
