CAMBRIDGE - Joseph T. Hendricks Sr., 59, passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007.
He was born in Philadelphia on Feb. 5, 1947 and was a son of the late Samuel and Verna Kish Hendricks.
He and his family moved to Caroline County as a young boy and he graduated from North Caroline High School in 1965. He served in the Army National Guard from 1965 until 1977 and was honorably discharged as a Major.
Mr. Hendricks was involved in little league as a coach from 1977 to 1980 and had also served as a Town Commissioner as well as Mayor of Ridgley. He had been active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for a number of years, and had served as District Commodore.
On Aug. 20, 1987 he was married to the former Janie Cox.
Mr. Hendricks had worked at the Queen Anne County Board of Education in heating and air conditioning for a number of years. He had been in failing health since June.
Survivors his wife, Janie L. Hendricks of Cambridge; two sons, Joseph Hendricks Jr. of Church Hill and Travis P. Hendricks of Denton; one daughter, Jennifer H. Dill of Denton; four grandchildren, Mary Ann Hendricks, Katie Dill, Billy Hendricks, Matthew Hendricks; five stepgrandchildren, Scott Dill, Jordan Dill, Erica Dixon, Brian Pierson, Deanna Pierson; a brother in law, Wayne Cox and his wife, Joan Cox of Woolford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelsea Hendricks; a brother, George Hendricks and a sister, Verna Black.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. George W. Wheatley Jr. officiating.
