John S.'Jack' Townsend, 85

SALISBURY - John S. "Jack" Townsend, 85, of Salisbury passed away at his home Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.

Born in Crisfield Feb. 1, 1923, he was a son of the late Lester and Mable Somers Townsend.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning home, he was employed with Suburban Propane for 44 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a lifetime member of the Crisfield Fire Department, an active member of the Happy Timers of Salisbury and a member of St. John's Church in Fruitland. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks and Salisbury Moose lodges.

His time and dedication to helping others will be truly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Angie Townsend; three sons, Dicky and his wife, Jo Ann and Kenny and his wife, Debbie, all of Salisbury and Johnny of Marion Station; five grandchildren, Michelle, Mark, John John, Jennifer and Bianca; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at St. John's Church in Fruitland. The Rev. Paul Shepherd will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Happy Timers of Salisbury or Coastal Hospice.
