John E. "Bus" Gore Jr.

SALEM - John E. "Bus" Gore Jr., 87, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.

He was born at Salem on Aug. 19, 1919, a son of the late John Edgar Sr. and Helen Barnett Gore.

Mr. Gore was born in Salem, where he spent his entire life. He had attended schools in Dorchester County and had been engaged in farming at the Green Farm at Salem for many years.

Mr. Gore was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and was also a life member of Cambridge Loyal Order of Moose 1211, Dorchester Co. Farm Bureau, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Co. and the Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Co.

Some years ago he had worked part-time at the Oak Grove Cannery and had also worked on a seasonal basis for Choptank Electric and he had enjoyed gardening. Mr. Gore had been in failing health for several months.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy G. Thomas and her husband, Robert L. Thomas of Crownsville; one son, John E. Gore III of Salem; four grandchildren, Robert Lee Thomas Jr., Jeffrey Scott Thomas, Karen Christmas and Donna Bradley. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Heaps and Elizabeth Gore, and two brothers, Charles B. Gore and Edgar S. Gore.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the Rev. Helen B. Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made either to Salem United Methodist Church c/o Joe Layton, 4448 New Bridge Road, Vienna, MD 21869, or to the Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 66, Linkwood, MD 21835.

Pallbearers will be William Layton, Joe Layton, Ray Coates, Billy Short, Mark Eberspacher and Russell Hurley.
