SMITH ISLAND – John Asbury Evans, 64, of Rhodes Point, departed his life here on earth on November 10, 2007 after a battle lost to cancer. He has now went to make his home with the Lord.
Born to the late Ida and Gillespie Ernest "Bear" Evans on Rhodes Point, Smith Island January 7, 1943.
Known as "Johnny Boy" to all is survived by one brother Gillespie Ernest "Junie" Evans Jr. and his wife Helen of Eden and three sons and their families, John Eric, Paul and David all of Virginia and many other family members and friends.
"Johnny Boy" served in the Vietnam War amd retired from Newport News Shipyard after supervising the "Tiger Team" for 26 years.
He was a dedicated member of the Masons and Calvery UMC of Rhodes Point.
He leaves behind many cherished memories, stories, and life experiences to all who knew him.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Louise Evans, and a grandson "Little Johny".
