SALISBURY - John Albert Payne died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Temperanceville, he was the son of the late Lee Payne and Nancy Payne. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was Past Master of the Wicomico Masonic Lodge No. 91, and a past member of the Wicomico Yacht Club and Power Squadron. He worked for 49 years for J. W. Shockley & Sons, retiring as General Manager in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mildred Darby Payne; a son, Howard L. Payne of Chesapeake, Va.; two stepsons, Mark Holloway of Salisbury and Marion Holloway of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Love Payne; four siblings, Esther Trader, Roger Payne, Dora Kulp and Florence Wooters. A Masonic Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
