CRISFIELD - Jerry W. McCready passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Born in Crisfield on April 2, 1929, he was a son of the late Lawson and Beatrice McCready. His wife, Florine Elizabeth Twigg McCready, preceded him in death on April 8, 2014.
Jerry was a graduate of Crisfield High School and served in the US Army. He was owner and operator of his mechanic shop, Broadway Motors. Prior to being a business owner, he worked for Chrysler Corp.
Very active in his community, he was a charter member, life member and former trustee of Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, member and past Commander of the Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post #16, member of the former VFW Post #8274, and was active in the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors of the former McCready Memorial Hospital. He also was a former Judge of Orphans Court for Somerset County.
He loved sports and was proud of being inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. In his younger years he enjoyed refereeing soccer and basketball, and umpiring baseball. His faith was important to him, and over the years he attended Mariners United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church where he was Deacon, and the Crisfield Wesleyan Church.
Jerry loved God, family and people. He never met a stranger and he would always tell it like it was. He will be missed by many including the staff at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing that he loved.
He is survived by his step-son, Gary Hale and family; devoted niece and nephew, Cindy Jones and David Crockett; several other nieces and nephews including, Debbie Gales, Donnie Crockett, Linda Holland, and Mackie McCready; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a good friend, Philip Widdowson.
Jerry was the last surviving of his siblings that preceded him in death, Maxwell McCready, Bates McCready, Leo McCready, Iola McCready Isdell, and Donald McCready. Along with his parents, wife and siblings, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry W. McCready, Jr. and his step-son, Clinton Carroll "C.C." Mariner.
Funeral services at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2 PM with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The Reverends Jack "Tad" Maroon, Robert Daniels, and James Riley will officiate and interment will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
