Jerry C. Carter, 64

CRISFIELD - Jerry C. Carter died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at his home. He was 64.

Born in Crisfield on June 1, 1942, he was a son of the late John Henry Carter Jr. and the late Sarah Isabelle Morgan Helgeson.

He was a retired construction worker with the former Carl J. Williams & Sons Co. for many years, and earlier, was a truck driver for the former W.F. Morgan & Sons Seafood Co. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was a member of Mariners United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Crisfield Elks Lodge No. 1044, Lower Eastern Shore Moose Lodge No. 2431 in Westover, the National Rifle Association, and was affiliated with the Crisfield High School class of 1960. He enjoyed refurbishing classic cars, and he loved his family.

He is survived by his children, Cathy Vermillion of Dover, Del., Patti Lambert and Timothy Carter, both of Louisiana, and Jerry Carter Smith and Keith Carter Spriggs, both of Smith Island; his brothers and sisters, Neil Helgeson and Robert Helgeson, both of Salisbury, Mary Lynn Hastings of Delmar, Diane Morgan of Crisfield, Frances Evans of Hebron, and Jack Helgeson of Cambridge; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; his special friends, June Parsons, Stevie Thomas and Ernest "Slim" Collins, all of Crisfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Carter and Jay Helgeson.

Funeral services were held Nov. 30, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The Rev. Jay Hurley officiated. Urn interment will be held at a later date in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406, Crisfield, MD 21817.

Harry E. Helsby, Jr, 82

CRISFIELD - Harry E. Helsby Jr. died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. He was 82.

Born in Crisfield on March 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Harry E. Helsby, Sr. and the late Mable Sterling Helsby.

A graduate of Crisfield High School, he was a retired seafood dealer with the former Helsby Seafood Co. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield.

He is survived by two sisters, Joy Fay Tyler and her husband Charles Calvin of Salisbury and Dolores H. Nelson of Boca Raton, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Faith and Juanita.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, J. Kenneth Nelson.

Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Steve Willing will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Crisfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Beth Clough, 9 Heron Way, Crisfield, MD 21817.
