CAMBRIDGE - James R. Warfield, 79, passed away at Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

He was born in the Neck District on Jan. 21, 1929 and was a son of the late Russell Edgar and Laura Eva Tyler Warfield.

Jim attended schools in Cambridge. As a young man he had worked with his father as a waterman. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal.

On June 26, 1954 he was married to the former Ruth Joiner. She passed away on July 14, 2006. Jim had worked as an electrician for John B. Tieder for 37 years. He had been a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge since Dec. 10, 1961, and had been a member of the Men's Bible Class since 1962 where he had served as President, Treasurer and songleader.

Jim was a Past Master of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. where he had also served as secretary for several years. He was also a member of Chesapeake Forest 115 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Past Patron of Minerva Chapter No. 50 and was also a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion.

He had been in failing health for several months, and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital for the past three weeks.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine W. Crawford and her husband, Leon Crawford of Cambridge and Jamie R. Warfield of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Brandon J. Crawford and Brittany R. Crawford; two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and his special friend and grand dog, Penny.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dolly McGinn, Doris W. Joiner and C. Lorraine McGlaughlin and a brother, William R. Warfield.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with David W. Tolley and the Rev. Samuel H. McWilliams officiating. Burial will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Thomas Funeral Home where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic Memorial service at 8 p.m..
